Sharad takes inspiration from local life and myths and tries to bring his expression to life by transforming his expression into a papier-mache medium. Some of his recognized works includes: Adi-Shakti, Kailasha, Sadashiva, Parinirvana, Satyagraha, Feeder, Headless Elephant, etc. Apart from his own work as an artist, Sharad has been dedicated to promoting indigenous traditions of Bihar, especially endangered arts & crafts for the past 28 years. So far, he is credited with reviving more than six such endangered crafts, in which traditional Bakhia Sujni, Cotton dolls, Cow-dung Sculptures, Bhitti Mati crafts, Malakari Craft, Mali painting and Indigenous Mithila art are prominent. Besides those, He created many other commendable platforms for uplifting the craftsmen. At the beginning of the Corona era, Sharad laid the foundation of 'Mithila Institute of Traditional Heritage and Indigenous Literature in Arts', under which he initiated 'Daksh-Deshaj Rajya Shilp Samman' (A State honor to skilled & indigenous craftsmen). The initiative got widely appreciated by all and welcomed by everyone. Sharad also serves as a State Co-ordinator for Folk art & Sculptor Cell 'Bhartiya Janta Party Art & Culture Cell, Bihar' and this prestigious event was made successful in collaboration with it. This honor is meant to be celebrated every year on the occasion of World Heritage Dayi.e., 18th of April every year. He is also credited for having curated some 8 (eight) prmotional exhibitions and more than 30 (Thirty) events all around the country and abroad. Sharad Kumar's works can be seen in many prestigious museums, art galleries and personal collections, including Bihar Museum (Patna), Buddha Smriti Museum (Patna), Grand Hyatt Regency (Mumbai), Bharat Bhawan (Bhopal) etc. His first break was when his work ‘Feeder’ got selected for National exhibition of Art by Lalit Kala Akademi in 1995. In view of his outstanding contribution, he has been honored many times by prestigious institutions and the Government of India, including: 'Kala-Shri Samman' in 2007 by Government of Haryana; 'Kala-Guru Samman' in 2020 by Sanskar Bharti ; Nominated for 'Society Achievers Award' in 2003 by Magnum Society, Mumbai; 'Bihar Kala Puraskar' in 2015 by the Department of Art and Culture (Govt. of Bihar); and in the year 2002 he received 'National Award' by the Ministry of Textiles (Government of India).
